I got a single room on the second floor with breakfast.
I got a single room on the second floor with breakfast. My bathroom, the loo, was not cleaned prior my checking in. Smells like a public toilet! It looks like it was wiped with a dry towel. This gave me a headache! There was nothing like a fresh smell when it was used something like a flash or a bleach. My room was facing so-calledd sea view. Opposite of it, on the street is a restaurant on the pavement, where they play super loud music after 10.00 pm till midnight! Actually there were a proper concerts. Even with closed windows the music was loud. I have been waiting often for a long time to get the room key. The receptionist was explaining something for ever to the newly arrived couple.
Breakfast, there is no plain yoghurt. No tomatoes! How can you not serve tomatoes in Italy!!!?? There was a bitter, artificial fluid, pretending to be a juice. Disgusting. I just got my tomatoes and a yoghurt from the supermarket, for tomorrow breakfast. However, in the price £100 per night, the breakfast is included!
And more to it. The beach is mostly private. To put the towel on the sand, they want to charge you. The sea is very shallow. It's impossible to swim. People are just standing in the sea.
Next to me German older couple was arguing, they never heard of private beaches, to pay for a towel on the sand or a bed with the umbrella from 20 to 150 euros!
I booked the hotel via booking.com and chosen for great reviews. My experience was not good at all.
I complained to the lady receptionist and she was dismissive. According to her nothing was wrong. I will be requesting my money back .

If you want to slow down and relax, I think Viareggio is a great choice. There’s a bit of nightlife on the boardwalk on Saturday night (live bands) till after midnight, but otherwise, it was fairly quiet. That said, if your hotel is in the boardwalk there will be some traffic noise. Somehow that didn’t bother me. There’s an amazing park a block from the boardwalk that runs for a mile or so and it’s a great place to sit, walk, run, bike, people watch, etc. The town has a nice character with plenty of good restaurants, cafes and bars. I really enjoyed riding a rented bike along the coast (there’s a dedicated bike path) and around town too.

Positive surprise.
Positive surprise. I worried Viareggio would be all high-rise hotels. It is a nice small town with a charming architecture, a selection of bars and restaurants, a variety of beaches to choose from. There are vast green areas in and around the town. Close access to the highway, short distance to highlights like Cinque Terre, Lucca, Pisa, etc.

Viareggio was amazing.
Viareggio was amazing. Don't be put off if you are travelling by train, when you get to the seafront you will be glad you came! Ristorante Kalika was fab. Food and staff exceptional. Bar Eden is well worth a visit. Friendly welcoming staff and drinks are reasonable. Beware the Limoncello Spritz, it's strong!

I really liked the hotel. The room had a balcony overlooking the sea and at night you could hear the waves splashing. The hotel is quiet, there were few guests and everyone was calm. Breakfast was enough for me to walk until lunch. The room was clean, cleaned and towels changed regularly. The administrators at the reception are very pleasant and responsive, they told us how to get to neighboring cities. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. If I'm in Viareggio again, I'll definitely stay here.
Hotel Tirrenia is a lovely and comfortable hotel which is located very closely to the beaches. The hotel also offers discounts for accessing the private beaches. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and also provided towels for the beach. The bedrooms are clean and are equipped with perfectly functioning wifi and air conditioning. The breakfasts exceeded my expectations with a wide variety of both hot and cold food and beverages.
A lovely hotel, located just off the promenade. Really clean, brand new, and Aircon was a blessing.
Roof top terrace was cool, our suite was massive.
Definitely stay again,5 stars .
- Perfect breakfast.
- Very good services from the host.
- If you want a vintage-romantic room, this is the place to be in Italy, by the sea.
- Great location.
